Resumen

Personal income distribution has been studied using different approaches. Within the quantitative studies approach, numerous works have had the objective to propose a probability density function that describes the size distribution of incomes. Such functions should provide a reasonably close approximation to actual distribution. Nevertheless, the advantages of these statistical models have generally not been used in economic studies of the determinant factors of distribution. The purpose of this paper is to present an approach that integrates both types of studies of personal income distribution: economic and statistical. Using this model, wich relates estimated parameters of Dagum distributions to different economics indicators, we can explain changes produced in Spanish personal income distribution between 1973 and 1991.
