Resumen

Resumen Introducción El cáncer gástrico (CG) representa la segunda causa de muerte por cáncer a nivel mundial. Su incidencia ha variado considerablemente en el último siglo. Los síntomas más frecuentes de presentación son el sangrado, el dolor epigástrico, la anorexia y la dispepsia. Diagnóstico La prueba de elección para su diagnóstico es la endoscopia digestiva alta con la toma directa de biopsia. Tratamiento La única opción de tratamiento curativo lo constituye la resección quirúrgica. Tanto la quimioterapia perioperatoria como la quimiorradioterapia y la quimioterapia adyuvantes han demostrado su eficacia en los estadios I a III de CG en distintos estudios aleatorizados. En la enfermedad avanzada se utilizan de forma estándar distintas combinaciones de quimioterapia. La adición de trastuzumab a la quimioterapia de enfermedad diseminada en primera línea ha aumentado la eficacia de esta última en tumores que sobreexpresen HER2 (receptor 2 del factor de crecimiento epidérmico)..
