Resumen

Because the prognosis of dementias depends on multiple factors, its forecast is highly inaccurate. Key prognostic factors are cognitive reserve and neuronal plasticity. In order to establish treatments in advanced stages of the disease and in the transition to palliative care (taking into account the treatment of nutritional disorders and respiratory infections), patients (in the initial or prodromal phases), and/or relatives (advances stages) and their clinicians have to agree. In that sense, the National Hospice Organitation criteria are a helpful tool. It is of the greatest importance to detect patients mistreatment and malnutritition.
