Resumen

According to the study method set out in the Historia de la métrica medieval castellana (2016), this paper considers all aspects related to the treatment of the metric in Chancellor Ayala’s work, in Rimado de Palacio and in the response to Sánchez de Calavera included in the Cancionero de Baena. The textual corpus is fixed, the prosodic contexts (the clerical and the one of troubadours) are rebuilt. The author had to know these contexts in order to determine the two metric systems used in his work: the isosyllabic system (alexandrines and octosyllables) and the isorrhythmic one (“arte mayor”). In addition, the rhyming networks of the two models and the process of elaborating four-line stanza are analyzed, stressing the different parts that integrate the collection of verses dedicated to Mary, Mother of Jesus. The pragmatic figures on which the transmission of the content of the work depends are indicated. Finally, and possible ways of reciting and reading the text are put forth, without forgetting the distinctive features of verse composition, with a final synthesis
