Résumé

Fahr's disease is a rare disorder that is caused by basal ganglia calcification of basal ganglia and other brain structures. Its course includes a motion disorder, cognitive deterioration, and psychiatric symptoms. A case report is presented on a patient that was diagnosed and treated for depression, but the unfavourable course led to the suspicion of an organic disease. Basal ganglia calcifications were found in the CT scan. A review will be presented of the differential diagnosis of principal aetiologies that have similar clinical symptoms that are due to basal ganglia calcification. Prognosis and treatment can be very different depending on the aetiology.
