Abstract
The effect of different concentrations of arsenate and dichromate anion on intestinal retention and distribution in several organs of As (V) as function of time has been investigated. Male Wistar rats (150-200 g) were treated with different dose of As2O5 (16 and 160 μg/kg) and K2Cr2O7 (200 and 400 μg/kg). The rats were killed and several organs were quickly removed, and the content of As was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The obtained results show that As (V) distribution process depending on administered dose, since the tistular accumulation of this element increase with the concentration. On the other hand, dichromate anion produces a general decrease in tistular levels of As, except for intestinal concentration at the first hour of exposition. This fact corroborates the hypothesis that Cr (VI) favours the intestinal absorption of arsenate.
