Abstract
In this work, the performance of encoded acoustic signals by multilevel Com- plementary Set of Sequences (CSS) and modulated by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme is analysed in order to be used in an underwater horizontal link. The channel propagation model is based on ray tracing. The proposed transmission scheme is used in a positioning system among a buoy in a surface and a group of sensors deployed on the seabed, which form a sensor network for coastal monitoring, in order to compute the position of the data obtained by each of them. The obtained results show a suitable robustness of the used encoding scheme in a point-to-point link in shallow water, where it is possible to detect encoded signals even under worst conditions of medium attenuation and very low Signal to Noise ratio (SNR), for different distances.
