Abstract

The Iberian figurines are presented in this volume as a set of ideo-technical images of great social value. Their narratives are based on the stories fixed upon painted parietal supports, providing information that is unique in the European context. Their interpretation is framed within the ideologies that underpinned displays in the funerary world as part of social competition. These representations of small human bodies "dressed" in the sun, provide us with ample information, including insights on identity, gender, age, status, and history. Their striking images are not far removed from the ideological foundations of the power constructs among the historical elite.
