Resumen
This article shows the results and conclusions of research regarding what Secondary Education guidance counsellors from the Madrid Region think, feel and expect from their professional development. The present work has been defined and analyzed based on six fundamental dimensions: 1) Definition of professional sphere, that includes two sub-dimensions: 1.1) Functions of guidance counsellors (those prescribed by the rules; those that the school community demands; those that are in fact implemented; and those that are considered important even if they are impossible to be currently implemented); 1.2) labor conditions and resources; 2) Training (initial and continuing); 3) Participation; 4) Promotion; 5) Professional Organization and 6) The social acknowledgment of this profession. There are some plausible predictions that may be derived from the results of this study about the model of psychopedagogical intervention in practice, that contrasts with the model of intervention that advocates a modern conception of educational Guidance (of collaboration among professionals, focused on prevention and within the curricular framework).
