Abstract
This article analyzes the participation of services sector in public funding programs to innovation from a European perspective. Firstly, a brief summary of those instruments developed at national and European level to promote the scientific and technological base within the service activities is provided. Secondly, those particular organizational features that may be influencing the participation of specific business typologies in the existent public funding systems are explored. Results point out the importance of taking into consideration the differences appeared between the various services sub-sectors, business sizes and European countries
