Abstract

During the last three decades, the nude scenes have proliferated in Spanish theater provoking for the scholar peculiars reflections about the appearance of the theater actor in his/her least grade of theatricality. This doctoral thesis examines the aspects and contributions of nudity as an element of scenic significance. To serve this purpose, internalmechanisms of some productions which involve nudity were analyzed and a distinguishedfunction was given for each performance. The objective is to investigate the aesthetic and semantic development of the nude actor as well as to highlight the referential, artificial, and meta-theatrical condition of the most natural and pure image of body on stage.
