Resumen
The legal framework in the Tarragona province (southern Catalonia, NE Spain) the preservation ofpaleontological outcrops is still poorly developed. A detailed evaluation has been carried out oftwo cenomanian historical outcrops located close to the city centre in Tarragona. This study hasfocused on the rich and diversified foraminiferal content of these materials. The importance of preserving these outcrops, besides their recognised geological and palaeontological interest; is emphasized on the basis of their historical and archaeological values. This is due to the fact that such rockformations were the base of quarrying works for the construction of the Roman walls of the town. Therefore, a combined proposal of geoconservation for these outcrops is presented. This wouldinclude, on one side, their nomination as Pont of special palaeontological interest, and on the otherside, their integration within a wider educational, touristic, cultural and archaeological program ofthe city.
