Abstract

In the last decades there has been had a significant increase in the use of the Hospital Pediatric Emergency Services (SUPHAN) at expense of trivial illnesses. It’s an independent increase regardless of hospital type and community circumstances where it is located. This phenomenon has been seen in various industrialized countries, despite not having seen a parallel increase in the pediatric population that could explain such increases. With this work we tried to do an epidemiological study of the current status of pediatric emergencies in the Hospital General Universitario de Guadalajara and observe its evolution over the past 9 years. For such studies were reviewed discharge reports from the Emergency Department of Hospital General Universitario de Guadalajara, of all children under age 10 who came to the emergency room from 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2006. In conclusion, we notice that the number of cases handled in the SUPHAN had a certain increase. The predominant profile of the patient consultation is an infant with an undeveloped process, especially fever. In about half of the cases an adequate anamnesis and physical examination are sufficient to handle these children.
