Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dry needling in the low trapezius muscle in patients with craniocervical pain of myofascial origin. The seventy-two subjects included in the study were divided into two groups: the experimental group received treatment in the PGM3 of the low trapezius muscle, and the control group was treated in a healthy area near that point inside the same muscle. The subjects' degree of disability, sensation of pain and pressure pain threshold were assessed, and monitored for a month. The results showed statistically significant differences in favor of the subjects included in the experimental group, with regard to degree of disability, sensation of pain and pressure pain threshold. These differences were maintained, at least, for a month after the intervention.
