Abstract
Authorities in Madrid and Barcelona are fighting against time to modify their urban plans and social laws to achieve the six million square meters and the fiscal and labours conditions, that the game tycoon Sheldon Adelson requires to install, in some of them, a leisure macro-complex similar to Las Vegas: Eurovegas. Tourism, work and culture are reason given to support the ray of light coming in this time of darkness (E. Aguirre, President of Madrid Community). Using this case as example, the paper study from three perspective this increasingly common phenomenon of ex novo larges tourist investments: (a) as new strategies for developing a rapidly larger and global tourist industry, (b) impact on local policies, specifically, as cause of democratic space configuration disruption, (c) impact on urban structures (landscapes) and behaviour (identities) of the sites where they settle.
