Abstract
This article presents a descriptive analysis of earned income distribution in Spain using, first of all, the breakdown ofearnings into intra-group and inter-group inequality and, secondly, the estimation of earnings diferences between workers with certain individual features and their jobs. The results of the breakdown of the indexes of inequality show that around 30% of earnings inequality may be put down to inequality in employmente or educational levels. The results of the estimation of earnings differences by educational levels and by job specifications using quantile regression show, first of all, that earnings differences between men and women, levels of employment, educational levels, age groups and type of contract (temporary versus permanent) are greater in the high part of the distribution and confirm, secondly, that it es earnings differences between employment and educational levels that most contribute to earnings inequality.
