Résumé
Global scale burned land mapping was approached from NOAA-AVHRR images, since they provide properspatial and spectral rasolution for such studies and easily accessible. This research was basad on a series of AVHRR data on the Iberian Peninsula covering the summerseason (June to September) of 1991, 1994 and 1995. A new spectral index, specifically designed for burned area mapping was applied taking into account the spectral behaviour of those areas in the AVHRR red and near infrared bands.
