Abstract

This article has been written as a reply to several very important questions: what is grammar? What is it for? How does it work? The answer leads us to postulate a grammar for linguistic use, a grammar based on evolutionary psychology. This proposal means an emerging grammar (paying attention to grammaticalization) which is also pragmatically located (communicative variables are taken into account; mainly the speaker and listener intentions). Grammar's abstract dimension (constituent norms) and located dimension (regulative norms) get joined by conceiving grammar as an unstable structure made up of a set of choices which allows the speakers to adapt themselves not only to the current context requirements but also to the new context demands.
