The novella de Nastagio degli Onesti (Boccaccio, Dec. V. 8) is analysed in relation to three very different but interesting parallels; a Medieval Latin exemplum of Cesareus of Heisterbach, an Andalusian folk superstition of the 19th century, and an Irish traditional legend recorded at the end of the 19th century as well. Coincidences and divergences show some of the keys and display Boccaccio's literary mastery.
