Zusammenfassung

To what extent can literature contribute to the survival or destruction of human kind? How can it be done at present? Since at present there seems a substantial threat of environmental crisis, what means are available to fight this back? L'homme qui plantait des arbres, without any doubt, one of the literary works which has contributed and still contributes to improve our environment. It was written in 1953 by Jean Giono (1895-1970) one of the most important French authors of the XX century. His aim being, as well as reforest, that such action prevails long before we are gone, «était de faire aimer l'arbre ou plus exactement faire aimer à planter des arbres ce qui est depuis toujours une de mes idées les plus chères».
