Abstract
Scenarios and simulation models are not a common tool used in the metropolitan planning in Spain despite they are frequently used in other European planning cultures. This paper presents a theoretical discussion on the utility and applicability of both scenario planning and the spatial simulation models in the metropolitan planning in Spain. As a result, the paper proposes a methodological approach to guide the integration of these instruments in the plan making process.
