Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the Earth Sciences Olympics, an initiative that started in Spain in 2010 but that has been running in other countries for the last five years. The aim of the Olympics is to encourage the students to acquire knowledge of this science, as well as highlight its importance in the current world, promoting its progress and publicising it, and, in turn, encouraging the students to attend university courses related to this subject. Furthermore, during this course the exchange of ideas and materials related to Earth Sciences is fostered, resulting in improvements in the teaching of Earth Sciences within non-university teaching centres.
