Abstract

The main stages of Homo sapiens physical development (infancy, childhood, juvenility, adolescence and adulthood) can be delimited using the eruption sequence of the deciduous and permanent teeth. Paleoantropologists take advantage of the regularity in the tooth emergence and replacement pattern to infer the age-at-death of fossil remains that preserve the dentition or part of it. In the present work, we offer some guidelines to develop a workshop using some fossil hominin cranial specimens. This activity aims to present the general public with the Principle of Actualism used by palaeontologists while working with the fossil record.
