Abstract

Modesto Bargalló Ardévol (1894-1981), professor of Normal (Teachers) School and a methodologist of science, was member of the Royal Spanish Society of Natural History during the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century. At its scientific meetings announced the discovery of several paleontological sites in the Guadalajara province, some as important as the Eocene bone breccias of Huérmeces del Cerro or the Miocene vertebrate site at Chiloeches .The text of his first scientific papers on these sites have been contrasted with other Bargalló publications; where, in some of its paragraphs, described the circumstances in which these discoveries were made, allowing us to know how they related to his teaching activity and methodology, as well as highlight his relationship with the Society and the National Museum of Natural Sciences, a relationship that was similar to that held by other high school teachers of the time and we consider interesting highlight. Some of these sites, for their interest and importance, have been later investigated and studied, being thus possible to value the contribution of Professor Bargalló in the field of Paleontology.
