Abstract
Colorectal cancer is the third most frequent malignant tumor around the world. Different risk and protective factors for colorectal cancer have been defined. After the initial diagnosis, some image techniques for the study of the spread of the disease must be done so the best treatment option can be offered. For stages I and II, localized disease, surgery is the treatment of choice. For stage III, locally advanced disease, adyuvant chemotherapy after the surgery has reduced the relapse rate. Selected stage II patients may have some benefit from adyuvant treatment. Metastatic disease is treated with combination of different chemothery drugs and targeted therapies. There is survival benefit of hepatic metastasectomy in selected patients.
