Abstract
Pain and cancer are closely related. Pain can be found in 25% of patients suffering from cancer at its diagnosis and up to an 80% in those with an advanced disease. Both patients and their families are well afraid of this symptom for it may strongly impair their quality of life. A number of various causes account for cancer pain: the very tumor itself, its treatment or the patients own condition. Pain involves a series of physical, psychological and social situations. It is. therefore, a difficult-to-manage symptom where a careful and accurate approach its mandatory to improve patients quality of life. Currently there exists a therapeutic armamentarium to get a good pain control. Analgesic drugs must be chosen on the grounds of patients pain intensity and their ongoing treatments.
