Abstract
T Iymphocytes are an essential arm in the adaptive or antigen-specific immune system. In this chapter, we will explain the concept, function and principal characteristics of the T Iymphocytes. We will also study the genetic and molecular base of their surface antigen receptor, the T-cell receptor (TCR). We will study in-depth the genetic reorganization that allows the generation of the large diversity of T cell antigen receptors and their structure and generation in primary Iymphoid organs. Finally, we will dedicate attention to the signal transduction through the TCR complex necessary for the activation and differentiation of the cells of this subpopulation.
