Abstract

The respiratory tract shall be contemplated as a "unique airway", considering both asthma and rhinitis with their clinical manifestations or co morbidities in conjunction. In order to perform the allergologic assessment it is essential to discern the allergens which surround the patient, allowing together with a detailed anamnesis to establish a suspected diagnosis. This diagnosis shall be confirmed by skin prick testing in the vast majority of the cases. The allergologic diagnosis offers the possibility of cure, whenever the allergen may be eliminated or prevented from the environment, or at least, it eases preventive measures to diminish its exposition in order to grant, in a great deal of cases, an etiologic treatment, namely immunotherapy, which may modify and control the allergic response.
