Abstract

Hiendelaencina (Guadalajara, Spain) was an important mining area dedicated to the exploitation of silver between 1884 and 1985, although with numerous interruptions. The result of this mining activity has left a legacy in the form of buildings, wells, landfills, ponds, etc., which constitute an important historical, mining and industry heritage. However, the cessation of mining activities has resulted in a significant deterioration of this heritage, part of which is already completely degraded or been plundered. One of the major sites of this rich heritage of the municipality is the San Carlos mine, at the northeast of the Hiendelaencina village. It was the last mine to cease its activity. This paper presents a proposal for a project focused on the gradual recovery of this mining area to recover assets worth putting back into recovery by buildings, machinery rebuilding, adequacy of roads and paths, reducing risks (landslides, collapses, falls, ...), and the creation of mining routes, installation of interpretive and explicative signs and interactive museum exhibits inside some buildings, but always trying to keep the low cost of these works. This would be achieved recover some of this heritage, while making it known and contribute to economic development of the municipality.
