Abstract
Atherosclerosis of coronary arteries is the major cause of obstructive coronary artery disease. Angina pectoris is the clinical presentation of reversible episodes of myocardial ischaemia, usually described as chest discomfort, triggered by exercise which improves at rest or after nitroglycerine. Clinical manifestations are the key the diagnosis, although there is a wide range of invasive and non-invasive tests for demonstration of myocardial ischaemia or visualization of the coronary anatomy. These techniques help in the diagnosis of obstructive coronary artery disease, allowing the correct risk stratification, thus permitting an appropriate therapeutic strategy.
