Abstract

The diagnosis of ischemic heart disease, myocardial ischemia and exercise or chemically induced myocardial ischemia, has a range of additional tests: baseline and stress transthoracic echocardiography, ergometry and myocardial perfusion tomography. Magnetic resonance imaging is increasingly used as a diagnostic tool to detect myocardial ischemia. Proper choice of the diagnosis pathways must be individualized and is determined by its cost-effectiveness and physical and clinical characteristics of the patient. Patient's underlying disease, clinical pattern, pretest probability, exercise capacity or collaboration in diagnostic testing are to be taken into account.
