Zusammenfassung

In the middle olf the lll century B.C. mercenary soldiers are at the beginning of many military conflicts, which had their origins in mutinies and independent conquests in the Central Mediterranean. These conflicts have historial repercussions at this time as they manage to control strategic cities and territories such as Mesana, Reggio, the Lybian territory of Carthage or the island of Sardinia. They threaten to even gain control over Syracuse or Cathage. All these mutinies and uprisings share similar plans, goals and patterns of action. The comparison of their analogies will lead us to know their very nature and origins as well as their modus operandi. It will also help us understand their purposes and similarities and the reasons why this time and this geographical area are so prone to mutinies and uprisings of mercenary troops.
