Abstract

The aim of this study is to prove if there exists a direct relationship between the categorical marks, which are used for the verbal idioms and routine formulas in Diccionario fraseológico documentado del español actual. Locuciones y modismos españoles, by Manuel Seco et al., and the type of definition that is used in each case. Thereby, if this specific relationship exists in a consistent way, we would be able to establish, as a categorical delimitation factor, the type of definition used (first metalanguage or second metalanguage). If, on the contrary, the use of both types of definition is not subject to any related criteria with the unit class, a more in depth study will be required about the underlined causes for choosing one or another in each case, and to propose different solutions that could help us to study these kinds of phraseological units.
