Abstract
Although integration policies of immigrants are the responsibility of the Member States, European Union may coordinate and harmonize European policies and legislation in this area. The guarantee of the fundamental rights of immigrants as a cornerstone of integration policies followed in a proper protection against discrimination in employment, family reunifi cation and the direct fi ght against racism and xenophobia may contribute to building an integrated Europe
