Abstract

This paper has examined the treatment of grammar in recent decades. From the common european framework for languages and the Curricular Plan of Instituto Cervantes, the fragmentation and controversy of the previous phase yield and give way to a much more stable situation. So, today hardly anyone doubts that grammatical instruction in foreign language classroom is necessary, but still goes subordinate to the communicative goals, so that there is now something more than grammar, the pragmatistic grammar. Other sign of these current times is the cognitive basis of grammar which is taught. Such a perspective not only responds to the speculation arising from intuition or common sense, but also to the increasingly important research of the acquisition/learning of foreign language.
