Zusammenfassung

A great deal has been written on the last territorial demarcation signed between Spain and the United States of America in the northenmost area of this continent. On this occasion, we have constructed a new scenario based on the work carried out by diplomat Luis de Onís before the North American authorities and on the information that was passed on to those in representation of Spanish rule during the Napoleonic occupation and also when Ferdinand VII reinstated himself on the Spanish throne. The Treaty stripped Spain of the historic territories under its sovereignty, such as was the case with La Florida as well as large part of what had at one time been the northenmost part of Upper California. In all, the Spanish decline was unquestionable and soon Spain would be replaced by an independent Mexico in the clauses that the Treaty would come to include.
