Abstract

In this paper, we study the presence of evil and sin in Alfonso the Wise’s General Estoria, huge historial compilation from the 13th century, in Spanish, covering from the beginnings of humanity until the time of Christ’s birth. First, the possible dependence of the Estoria’s sin organization from several medieval classifications of sin is discussed, then the relationship between the conception of sin in the General Estoria and in the legal works of Alfonso’s (Setenario, Partidas). Afterwards, the conception and treatment of each sin throughout the six Parts of the work is analysed.
