Abstract

Abstract Definition Occupational asthma is produced by an exposure to causes existing in the work environment and it is not produced outside this professional area. Classification There are two types of occupational asthma: immunological and non-immunological, depending on the pathogenic and histological mechanisms involved. Etiopathogenesis Its pathogenesis is influenced by genetic mechanisms and mechanisms inherent to the sensitising substance. Diagnosis In order to establish a diagnosis, it is necessary to prove that the patient presents asthma caused in the work place by means of allergy or inmmunological studies. Occupational dermatosis It is an alteration of the skin, mucosa or annexes, of physical or chemical origin, that is directly or indirectly caused, conditioned, maintained or aggravated by anything used in the professional activity or that exists in the work environment, forcing to interrupt work in a permanent, temporary or relapsing form. Treatment The only efficient treatment for all these conditions is to separate the patient from the source of the disease, which could at times cause medico-legal difficulties.
