Abstract

Early school leaving occurs at the age of 18 to 24, when young people take a decision that is irreversible in many cases. Our study is based on a qualitative methodology and shows the main results concerning various proposals for action to prevent early school leaving, and is part of a large research3. The study is based on 418 interviews fulfilled in 28 towns of Castile and León: 146 early school leavers, 125 families and 147 teachers. There were three discussion groups: the first discussion group conducted with early school leavers, the second with their families and the third one with teachers. The results show that it is convenient to implement preventive measures and guidelines for intervention at different educational levels. They should start at the earliest stages and continue a planning throughout the education of children and youth according to the convenience of implementation consistent with the level of maturity and age effectiveness.
