Abstract

Abstract Introduction Colorectal cancer (CCR) is the world's second most common cause of death due to a malignant tumour. There are sporadic as well as familial cases. It has been associated with various environmental factors, including poor fibre intake. Diagnosis Colonoscopy screening studies should be performed regularly, especially for patients at high risk. This is the test of choice if CCR is suspected. Treatment Surgery is the treatment of choice for localised disease. Adjuvant treatment with chemotherapy has shown benefits for survival in Stage III. Stage IV patients have options for a cure if the metastases can be resected, with a near 50% survival rate at 5 years. Combinations of chemotherapy and biological drugs are used for managing metastatic disease (stage IV).
