Abstract
The EU is firmly committed to promoting children’s rights and responding to their basic needs as an integral part of both its internal and external policies. The Commission’s communication of 12 April 2017 proposes a series of measures in order to assist Member States to meet the needs of children at all stages of the migration process. In this context, the best interests of the child should be taken into account as the center of the system and especially in the protection of the fundamental rights of minors. The Communication is addressed to immigrant minors and asylum seekers, both accompanied and unaccompanied.
