Resumen

Family and Community Medicine is an academic subject, a medical specialty and a health profession whose primary focus is primary care in health centers. Its incorporation as a subject in medical studies occurred worlwide in the 60s. This happened much later in Spain, starting in 2000 and spreading its implementation after the publication of the Ministerial Order ECI/332/2008. The current curricula of Medicine in Spain show an uneven degree of implementation in terms of the existence or not of an individualized subject, the number of ECTS credits and the duration of the clinical practice in primary care. The process of adaptation to the environment of the European Higher Education Area is an opportunity for the definitive and ordered implementation of Family Practice. Because of its ability to educate in a model based on problem solving, oriented to the individual, the family and the community with a bio.psico.social perspective, it can develop a fundamental role in the teaching of Medicine.
