Abstract

The term glomerulopathy, also known as glomerulonephritis, defines a group of disorders characterized by the impairment of glomerular filtration membrane appearing, cellular components and macromolecules in urine and accompanied by variable deterioration of purifying function of kidney. It encompasses an heterogeneous group of nosological entities, showing quite common clinical patterns, highlighting among them nephritic and nephrotic syndrome, recurrent macroscopic hematuria and changes in urinary sediment. Although glomerular filtration rate can be normal, in many cases renal insufficiency with a variable temporal course develops. Pathological studies have developed a key role in their operative classification, allowing both the clinical course typing as well as to define their prognosis and treatment.
