Abstract
Hypertensive crisis is defined as a severe elevation in blood pressure, generally considered a systolic blood pressure above 180mm Hg and a diastolic blood pressure above 120mm Hg, which is associated with potential complications, mainly cardiovascular ones. According with acute severe end-organ damage, hypertensive crisis are classified in two categories with different treatment and prognosis: hypertensive emergency, a situation in which uncontrolled hypertension is associated with acute end-organ damage; and hypertensive urgency without acute end-organ damage
