Resum

Acute pancreatitis is defined by the acute inflammation of pancreatic gland. It is the third cause of hospital admission in western world. Due to the high prevalence rates of obesity, cholelithiasis, alcohol consumption and hypertriglyceridemia, its incidence continues growing. Although in the most of cases the clinical course is mild, local inflammatory phenomena can progress to the development of a systemic inflammatory response (SIRS), which can lead to multiorgan failure and death. Its treatment requires close monitoring and, occasionally, multidisciplinary approach including gastroenterologists, radiologists, intensivists and surgeons
