Abstract

In the following protocol we will discuss the diagnostic orientation of a patient with immune disease and liver involvement. It is not unusual for the liver to be affected in the context of systemic and autoimmune diseases. Although in most cases they will be biochemical alterations without clinical relevance, in some cases liver damage may occur leading to the development of cirrhosis or acute liver failure. In a patient with an autoimmune disease that presents with liver disease we should always consider the possibility of having a primary liver disease. Similarly we must rule out drug hepatotoxicity. We present the main damage patterns associated with immunological diseases that can help guide the diagnosis of these patients.
