Abstract

The quarantine period established as a measure to contain the COVID-19 has generated an increase in the vulnerability of the group affected by gender violence, whose situation of isolation is aggravated and their possibilities of asking for help are now more limited. Although the risks of a recurrence of gender-based violence are clear in this situation, they may not be perceived by the usual detection systems and may not be clearly reflected in all the statistics that are published. Vulnerability to gender violence is a multidimensional and very complex concept; however, only one of its dimensions becomes protagonist most of the time, that is the mortal victims, thus distorting the true magnitude of this problem. On the other hand, little attention has been paid to its spatial and temporal perspectives, although it can provide valuable nuances and opportunities to understand the causes of the problem's persistence and monitor its evolution in the short term. In this work, it is proposed to analyze spatial patterns and their temporal evolution, as well as to determine the different degree of territorial vulnerability to gender violence, from the elaboration of synthetic indices of regional and provincial vulnerability to this type of violence. These indices are constructed from various indicators from official sources, which can be considered proxy variables for the degree of exposure to gender-based violence and the victims' demand for helping.
