Abstract
The concept of mediation has gained prominence in second language teaching since it was included and foregrounded in the latest common European frameworks of reference. The present paper describes a learning experience in the university classroom in which the abovementioned skill is implemented in the field of translation studies through a task that combines translation with another related process such as rewriting. By following a task-based methodology and applying theoretical grounds related to functionalism, students will have to translate and rewrite a short story in order to craft two products with different purposes and intended audiences. This task allows participants to cement and improve their mediation, linguistic, and intercultural skills as they enhance other aspects such as creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative work.
