Abstract

We reviewed the diagnostic criteria for arterial hypertension and the main tools available for its detection. We also include the main diagnostic tests that should be performed in the hypertensive patient to rule out target organ involvement and the risk strata according to coexistence with other risk factors, target organ involvement or the presence of established cardiovascular disease.
