Abstract

Acute myocardial infarction entails significant morbidity and mortality in both developed and developing countries, and therefore requires rapid diagnosis and management. The potential complications of acute coronary syndromes are classified into four major groups: heart failure and ventricular dysfunction, tachyarrhythmia and bradyarrhythmia, mechanical complications and pericardial complications. Urgent revascularisation has been demonstrated as the primary measure to reduce the risk of these complications.
